Charli XCX - Brat

Brat is the ninth studio album by English singer-songwriter Charli xcx. The record is known for its bratty, brash, and raw approach, and became a popular internet trend because of its artwork and aesthetic.

Ahead of the end of the rollout for her latest major-label album, Crash, Charli xcx felt her next album "would be for her", as she didn't feel happy making a more commercial sound like she did with the album and as her label, Atlantic Records, wanted. She also shared that the "direct and honest" approach of the album was a direct response to the "major-label pop star" concept of Crash.

Brat, along with it's follow-up remix album, Brat and It's Completely Different but Also Still Brat, are dance albums that channel the illegal London rave scene, rooted in clubbing culture, where Xcx started performing when she was a teenager. Xcx explained the album had a different lyricism rather than her usual, claiming, "she really does feel like she's saying things that she would say in private to friends". She also described it as her "most aggressive and confrontational record", but also her most vulnerable, and noted it "is probably the closest album to Pop 2 in its ethos".
