The completely unknown debut album of Issam Hajali (Ferkat Al Ard) fuses jazz and folk with Arabic and Iranian influences into unique beauty. Originally released in a limited run of just 75 cassette copies.
Hajali recorded 'Mouasalat Ila Jacad El Ard' in 1977 in Paris, during a year of political exile from Lebanon, in a single studio day with musicians from France, Algeria, Iran and a friend from Beirut. Melancholic, stripped-down guitar folk meets jazz-fused breaks, with the santour glistening throughout; the lyrics mostly draw on the poetry of Palestinian author Samih El Kasem. Reissued by Habibi Funk.
