Created using the same synthesizers and drum machines that powered his 90s work, the album is a joyous, colorful and vibrant collection of timeless house music that recalls not only Terado's own impeccable catalog but also the work of similarly celebrated contemporaries such as Burrell Brothers or Ben Cenac (Dream 2 Science, Sha-Lor).
In 2015, Japanese deep house pioneer Soichi Terada returned to the limelight with the album Sounds From The Far East. Encouraged by the positive response and renewed interest in his work, Terada returned to the studio to record his first new house music album in over 25 years, Asakusa Light.
Over the course of eighteen months, Terada sought to recreate the mental and physical processes that led to the creation of his famous earlier works. Those familiar with Terada's famous '90s dancefloor-focused sound - a vibrant, atmospheric and emotive style of deep house driven by the dual appeal of groove and melody - will find Asakusa Light a treat.
"I tried to remember how I felt thirty years ago, but when I tried it was super hard," he explains. “I didn't even know what I thought of myself five years ago, and it seems the mental metabolism cycle is faster than I thought. I tried various methods, including digging up my old MIDI data and composing by recalling old experiences. With the help of Rush Hour, I found some of the light from my heart that I had thirty years ago. I gave the nickname 'Asakusa Light' to the light I found in my heart.”
Having spent most of the last two decades writing video game scores, Terada has always had a gift for combining warm, undulating synth bass and perfectly programmed drum machines with captivating chords, smile-inducing melodies and soft musical flourishes. It is this absorbing, sunlit and melodic style that is his hallmark that takes center stage on the album Asakusa Light.
